Oil and gas seepage offshore Georgia (Black Sea) – Geochemical evidences for a paleogene-neogene hydrocarbon source rock

چکیده

Numerous hydrocarbon seep sites at the continental shelf, slope, and in deep water basin are known to feed Black Sea reservoir of dissolved methane. In this study, we identified likely sources gas oil that emitted four located on slope offshore Georgia Eastern 830 1,140 m depth – an area with seepage only (Batumi area) three areas coupled (Iberia Mound, Colkheti Seep, Pechori Mound). The geochemistry bulk parameters, organic fractions individual biomarkers near-surface sediments gas/oil expelled from seafloor was analyzed jointly interpreted assign most source rocks studied region. Presence oleanane shallow oil-impregnated slicks attests rock all is younger than Mid Cretaceous age. We conclude hydrocarbons ascending originate Eocene Kuma Formation and/or Oligocene–Lower Miocene Maikop Group, which considered principal Distributions crude suggests moderate heavy biodegradation. C1/C2+ ratios (10–4,163) along stable C H isotopic (?13C–CH4 ?46.3 ?53.1.3‰ V-PDB; ?2H–CH4 ?159 ?178‰ V-SMOW) indicate mixtures oil-associated thermogenic secondary microbial light discharged sites. Light Batumi Seep characterized by significant enrichments methane, but have almost similar ?13C–CH4 values if compared other study Such methane result a comparably higher degree petroleum degradation associated formation

Decrease in natural marine hydrocarbon seepage near Coal Oil Point, California, associated with offshore oil production

Prolific natural hydrocarbon seepage occurs offshore of Coal Oil Point in the Santa Barbara Channel, California. Within the water column above submarine vents, plumes of hydrocarbon gas bubbles act as acoustic scattering targets. Using 3.5 kHz sonar data, seep distribution offshore of Coal Oil Point was mapped for August 1996, July 1995, and July 1973. Comparison of the seep distributions over ...

Geochemical Characterization of Kazhdumi Source Rock in the Khaviz Oil Field, Southwest of Iran, Using Rock-Eval Pyrolysis

The Khaviz oil field located in Dezful embayment is one of Iran’s southwest oil fields. In this study, a total of 28 cutting samples from Kazhdumi formation (well No. KZ1, Khaviz oil field) were subject to geochemical investigation using Rock-Eval pyrolysis for the first time. The results of pyrolysis indicated that Kazhdumi source rock has significant hydrocarbon production potentiality and al...

Design for safety framework for offshore oil and gas platforms

Offshore platform installation is associated with several inherent risks arising from majorcritical safety challenges such as fires, explosions, blowouts, falling objects, earthquake, extreme weather, and impact from moving objects such as helicopters or ships. These critical problems are due largely to designerrors or inadequacies, and poor maintenance. The safety challenges highlig...

24. Late Paleogene and Early Neogene Foraminifers of Deep Sea Drilling Project Site 270, Ross Sea, Antarctica

Foraminifers from the upper Oligocene, lower Miocene, and Pleistocene at Site 270 in the southern Ross Sea, Antarctica, are discussed and illustrated. The total fauna comprises 74 genera and 163 species. A small number of taxa are recycled from Cretaceous and older Paleogene sediments. Four assemblage zones are proposed, the age of informal lithologic units discussed, and potentially important ...
